Meet Wolf Reger–traitor. Compared to him Benedict Arnold was a national hero and Judas Iscariot a paragon of virtue. At least that’s the way it showed in the Major’s notes?. But traitors aren’t born that way. Something has to happen to them long before they turn against society. That’s why, when you dig deep enough, you may find that the word traitor can be one hell of a misnomer!

It was a red enameled fingernail that just happens to still be attached to its owner. A young blonde who was strangled, buried and very much dead. It would have been simple for Jan to stay there in Jackson City, to work at General Hospital in Monroe, to settle down to two dates a week with Tom and an eventual marriage, to fall into a dull, humdrum routine. It would have been safe, secure. But no, she had to chase her rainbows and satisfy her dreams and search for that elusive thing called happiness. So Jan Gordon came to Deer River, with its dude ranches deep in the Rockies, in order to thrust aside all the unpleasant memories of the past and rediscover herself. But Jan found that as a nurse and as a woman, she couldn’t turn her back on conflict. There were two young doctors in Deer River; Jan owed loyalty to both. To Dr. Coe, Jan was bound by her conscience, but it was Dr. Noel Lester who held her heart. Nurse Jan suddenly felt happy and lighthearted as she drove young Dr. Noel Lester home. Her doubts about coming to Deer River to work for the summer began to disappear. He is nicer than I thought he would be, she thought, as they pulled up in front of the house. Helping her out of the car, he took her hand. “Come in and have dinner with me,” he said. She had not hoped for this much, but she knew she wanted to stay with him. Perhaps it was all a reaction to the things that had been happening to her. Noel Lester was exciting. Handsome. The unknown. She had come here looking for something. Happiness. Love. Fulfillment. Who was to say that it wasn’t right here in Noel’s outstretched hand?

The Jewels of Aptor by Samuel R. Delaney

QUEST AMID FUTURITY’S RUINS What was the strange impetus that drove a group of four widely different humans to embark on a fear-filled journey across a forbidden sea to a legendary land? This was Earth still, but the Earth of a future terribly changed after a planet-searing disaster, a planet of weird cults, mutated beasts, and people who were not always entirely human. As for the four who made up that questing party, they included a woman who was either a goddess, a witch, or both, a four-armed boy whose humanity was open to question, and two more men with equally “wild” talents. The story of their voyage, of the power-wielding “jewels” they sought, of the atomic and post-atomic terrors they encountered, is a remarkable science-fiction Odyssey of the days to come.

Voice-Over Voice Actor Book and Interview

Voice-Over Voice Actor

Voice-Over Voice Actor

A few weeks back I mentioned a great book about what it’s like behind the mic for a voice-over voice actor, called … um Voice-Over Actor: What It’s Like Behind the Mic by Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt. I got my copy and it’s terrific. There’s some great blurbs on the book by fellow voice-actors and professionals. The one that impresses me the most is from Voice Director Andrea Romano. If you’ve watched any animated DC Superhero show in the past 17 years then it’s probable has Andrea Romano listed as the casting director.

“Anyone wishing to pursue a career in voice-over will be more prepared and have a better chance of success if they read & heed the wisdom contained in this book. Were I teaching a class right now, this book would be a required text.” – Andrea Romano

My favorite quote is from John DiMaggio (voice of Bender on Futurama)

“Whatever Yuri and Tara say, I wholeheartedly disagree with. They’re a couple of shysters. And if you believe that, then I am Elmer J. Fudd, millionaire. I own a mansion and a yacht. Buy this book, you maroons!” – John DiMaggio

And for those who are deficient in the culture of WB:

But I digress.

If you want to get a taste of their book, and to order it, go to www.voiceovervoiceactor.com.

Also, Tara and Yuri did an interview recently on Coin-Op TV.

For Tara’s interview, click in at 12 minutes, 50 seconds (lasts ’til 30 minute marker).

For Yuri’s interview, click in at 32 minutes, 50 seconds (lasts ’til end of show).

Voice-Over Voice Actor

Voice-Over Voice Actor

This Summer I got to be part of a singular event for me. I was the “sound engineer” for a Voice-Over seminar at the Chelsea Library in Michigan. It was given by two excellent voice-over actors that work in Hollywood. They are Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt. Check out their sites and you’ll see they have tons of cred! They’ve both done voices for NARUTO [Tara Platt (the voice of Temari) and Yuri Lowenthal (voice of Sasuke)]. Yuri is also the voice of BEN TEN on Cartoon Network as well. And like a said, tons of other voices.

Well it was an excellent seminar. They covered so much great material in the brief time they had. When it comes to Voice-Over Acting, they got it goin’ on! And now they have a new book coming out next month. I just found out that if you order it now, you can get for 15% off. Check out their book’s site and pre-order today. You can even get a signed copy. I can’t wait to get my copy.

Look Back to Love by Vin Packer

Look Back to Love by Vin Packer

Look Back to Love by Vin Packer

Springtime in France, cruel in its beauty, tore them apart. Six people on a vacation in the hopes of redeeming their seemingly lost lives: Todd Phelps–the American newspaper columnist, whose drive for ambition has left him frustrated and discontent; Fran Phelps–his wife, who feels that having been married to Todd did not fulfill her dreams of marriage and family; Edward Allen–the aspiring writer, who believed that his detachment from humanity was because he is not capable of feeling love; Janet Carew–the mysterious Englishwoman, forever seeking what she believes to be love and somehow finding it; Henry Carew–her grotesque husband, outwardly appearing to enjoy his wife’s infidelity; and–Philip Carew–the lonely misguided son, who had a reason for his bizarre attachment to his mother. It drew Todd into a vortex of destructive, wanton passion–for another woman. It gave Fran a glimpse of the forbidden and terrible paths of desire. Then France, mistress of the world, taught them the deeper of meaning of love. Their relationships intertwine, and they will have to embrace these demons in order to survive! A novel poignant and searing, by Vin Packer, author of Spring Fire and Dark Intruders. This book was originally published as a Gold Medal paperback original in 195 3.
